The third and last part of your journey in Paris, is The Eiffel Tower.
How could anyone think of Paris without the Eiffel Tower dominating its landscape? For 120 years now, the Lady of Iron has kept a watchful eye on the City of Lights; becoming the emblem of the city, and even of the country. This 324 meters high, steel monster was built on the western side of the Champ-de-Mars Park by the engineer Gustave Eiffel and his collaborators for the Universal Exposition of 1889. For 41 years, the Eiffel tower remained the highest monument in the world and its 3rd floor is still the highest observation platform in Europe.
This emblem of Paris is quite popular, attracting 7.1 million visitors each year, and is the most visited entrance-paying monument in the entire world. Come and visit the Lady of Iron and see Paris as you never saw it before! Take the elevator, or for the bravest, climb the 1665 steps up to the last floor to enjoy one of the most beautiful panorama in the world; i.e. Paris’ rooftops.
PcVue and the Lady of Iron maintain a strong relation, for she is one of PcVue Solutions’ most prestigious clients. Working in collaboration with the company Semeru, our technical engineers have built a SCADA system dedicated to the Building Management System of this 10 100 tons giant. The BMS offers management of equipment in the Eiffel Tower, including the electrical, the lighting and the air-conditioning system.
One of the most important parts of this supervision is the lighting system. Each hour, from nightfall until 1 a.m., 20 000 bulbs offer a most impressive and pleasant sight, unquestionably contributing to the Parisian folklore. In the case of a major power failure, the PLC’s monitor the electrical recovery of the site, which corresponds to the management of 20 transformers.
On the French national holiday, the 14th of July, the Eiffel Tower is illuminated with the light of fireworks. It is biggest pyrotechnic event in France, and PcVue is used to switch on and off the lights of the tower’s installations.
Once you’ve reach the top, if you look straight North West, you can see the Historical Axis, a line of monuments, buildings and thoroughfares, going from the Louvres Museum to the Great Arch of La Défense business district. The Great Arch, designed to be a late 21th century version of the Arc de Triomphe, was built in 1989, and is the third highest building in the city, behind the Eiffel Tower, and the Montparnasse Tower, at a 110 meters height. The Building Management System of this monument is also managed by PcVue, with 7 posts implemented on site managing 65 000 tags via ModBus IP.
