Summary:

This article describes a problem with using the Schneider SCA72 converter with APPLICOM SW1000SER SOFTLINK.

Details:

The SCA72 converter cannot be used with SW1000SER.

The OPC SW1000SER server enables you to communicate in Unitelway, using the PC’s serial port, with a Schneider PLC of series TSX17, 47, 67 etc.

In this situation, you must use a RS232/RS485 converter to connect to the RS485 port of the PLC’s coupler. Schneider Automation offers such a converter (reference SCA72, with external case). However this converter is not validated by APPLICOM with SW1000SER software so the communication does not work.

Solution

Instead, you should use another available RS232/485 converter, for instance the CMx232/485 converter from Leroy.

Note

The converter you choose must handle self management of RTS/CTS signals (i.e. where the RS485 single-pair port management needs no RTS or DTR signal on the RS232 side).
