PcVue all versions.

Summary:

Solution for a multi station problem due to VPN using the software SetMTU.exe to configure properly Windows.

Solution:

The issue was a disconnection between client and server:

LAN timeout 30s
Winsock error = 5

The issue was solved by setting the MTU parameter to 576 on each station. MTU is the Maximum Transmission Unit on a network interface. It is the maximum size of a packet that can be transferred in one frame over the network. In certain conditions you need to change the MTU parameter to have a stable connection between PcVue stations.

You can find some recommended values on internet:

  • 576 – Dial-up Connections
  • 1492 – PPPoE Broadband Connections
  • 1500 – Ethernet, DSL and Cable Broadband Connections

Restart Windows for the change to take effect.

Further information

You can find further information, and the software itself, by searching for SetMTU.exe.
