Sentinel installation process
In order to read protection key, PcVue uses following Sentinel driver packages
- Version 5.41 is shipped with PcVue 8.00 up to version 8.00 SP7
- Version 7.3.2 is shipped with PcVue 8.00 SP8 and PcVue 8.10
- Version 7.4.0 is shipped with PcVue 8.2
Sentinel default installation with PcVue
- For version 8, PcVue Installs parallel driver or parallel and USB Driver (if you choose custom installation)
- For version 8.10, PcVue Installation proposes you by default to install only parallel driver. You need to do a custom installation to install USB driver only or both
- or version 8.2, PcVue Installation works as described below
- If no sentinel driver is installed, PcVue installs both drivers for parallel and USB dongle.
- If driver 7.4.0 is already installed, PcVue do nothing
- If driver 7.4.0 is already installed and user force custom installation, PcVue will install both parallel and USB drivers
Additional remarks
- For version 8.00 the USB Driver 5.41 should work with XP but it has not been checked in W2K environment and previous Windows versions.
- It has been observed that sometimes, when a user does a custom 7.3.2 installation of both drivers – parallel and USB, a pop-up message Insert disk 1 can be prompted. This information message should not impact the driver installation.
Sentinel manual installation
If you want to manually upgrade the Sentinel driver version, you can do it from “Control panel > Add / Suppress programs > Sentinel protection installer 7.x.x”
If you want to install manually Sentinel driver version, you can also do a custom installation, from PcVue CD at following location:
- Sv\Sentinel\SSD5410-32bit.exe for version 8 up to 8SP7
- Sv\Sentinel\Sentinel Protection Installer 7-3-2\setup.exe for version 8SP8 and 8.10
- Sv\Sentinel\Sentinel Protection Installer 7-4-0\setup.exe for version 8.2
Important notes
- Please remind that you must reboot your computer each time you install or uninstall a Sentinel driver.
- Safenet provides you a register clean utility, SSDCleanup. Please use it carefully and only once you have uninstalled your Sentinel driver. You must also reboot your computer after use of SSDCleanup
Problem description
It has been observed that when doing a custom installation of version 7.3.2 or 7.4.0 with only USB driver.
- PcVue doesn’t work properly and starts in demo mode
- Remote Licence Manager does not read USB dongle. An error 12 occurs (Sentinel driver is not installed) when reading USB dongle.
Solutions
In order to make it work with a USB dongle, when installing version 8.10, please choose Custom install and tick USB driver and Parallel driver checkbox.
If Sentinel parallel driver is already installed, you can also modify or upgrade your sentinel installation from Control panel (refer to 3.2) to add required driver.
- With version 8.2, nothing to do. It will automatically install USB and parallel drivers.
- When doing a Sentinel manual installation, please choose custom install and select only USB and Parallel Drivers (Sentinel Protection Server et Sentinel Keys Server are not required)
