Precautions

Warn

You can cause severe damage to a Windows installation by modifying its Registry Database incorrectly.

The Registry Editor’s Help starts with a list of ‘Best practices’. In particular you should:

  • Make a backup copy of the Registry Database before you begin.
  • Print a section of the Registry Database (as described in its Help topic To print all or part of the registry) for planning your changes.
  • Keep a note of each change that you make.

For instructions on how to recover the ‘last known good configuration’ of the Registry Database:

  • See the Registry Editor’s Help topic: To restore the registry.

Solution

  1. From the Windows Start button, run the Registry Editor (Run.Open.regedit).
  2. In the Registry database, open the folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall.
  3. In its GUID list of installed software, open the section for your PcVue software as identified in the table above, e.g. {E3C0DF7C-11BF-A18-BC95-E291EF845471}.
  4. In the DisplayName variable, note the identifier of the installed PcVue software, e.g. PcVue 32 V7.20a VBA.

Registry_Editor_to_remove_PcVue

  1. In the folder HKEY_LOCAL_SOFTWARE.SOFTWARE.ARC Informatique, open the sub-folder for that identifier.
  2. Right-click on the sub-key for PcVue then select Deletefrom the pop-up menu and confirm that action.
  3. Click on File.Exit to save the changes and close the Registry Editor.

Although it is not essential, you should also delete the following folders:

  • A folder in InstallShield Installation Information. This is a hidden folder located in X:\Program Files. To display hidden folders, in the Windows Explorer’s Tools.Folder Options.View tab, check the Advanced setting for Show hidden files and folders. For instance for 7.20a VBA, you would delete the folder C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{E3C0DF7C-11BF-4A18-BC95-E291EF845471}.
  • A temp folder in Documents and Settings: It is identified with the user (such as admin) who was logged in when the software was installed. For instance for 7.20a VBA, you would delete the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Local Settings\Temp\{E3C0DF7C-11BF-4A18-BC95-E291EF845471}.
