PcVue all versions.

Summary:

This article explains how to deal with error messages 16708 and 16709.

Details:

French PcVue: “16708, OPC, Ecriture, %s, Pas de droits d’écriture sur l’élément OPC”
English PcVue: “16709, OPC, Write, %s, No write rights on the OPC item”

%s is the name of the PcVue variable referenced by this message.

Explanation

On your OPC server, you do not have the rights to write on the item linked with the variable identified in the message. This message appears when your application tries to write to the item. The item is probably read-only and you have probably specified that the variable linked with the item is controllable. Check the variable description.

How to test the OPC server

You can use the following method to test your OPC server:

Link an OPC item that is read-only with a PcVue variable, and select the control properties for the variable. In the Event Viewer, PcVue should first return message number 16724 or 16725 when creating the variable, and then the message 16708 or 16709 when you write to the item. If the Event Viewer does not return both messages, you have some anomaly with your OPC server.
