Details:

NetBEUI (NetBIOS Frames Protocol, NBF) is a non-routable protocol for small networks.

Microsoft Windows no longer supports it.

Solution

Follow the procedure below if you have to install this protocol on a temporary basis for any reason:

  1. Copy the file NBF with the extension “.SYS” to the subfolder SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ in the Windows system root.
  2. Copy the file NETNBF with the extension “.INF” to the folder \INF in the system root.
  3. Open the Network Connection Properties dialog and click on the Install button to add the NetBEUI protocol.
