PcVue version 8.10.

Summary:

This article describes ways of installing the SafeNet Sentinel software when an earlier version, 7.20x or 8.00, is or was present.

Details:

When you install some versions of PcVue 8.10 on a station on which a previous version (8.00 or 7.20x) is installed, the SafeNet Sentinel protection key (USB) may not be accessible to either or both versions. This is due to an incompatibility between the Sentinel drivers used for the two versions. (5.41 for 7.20 and 8.00, 7.3.0 for 8.10)

There is no such problem with parallel port keys, since the drivers for parallel port keys can coexist on the same PC.

Solution 1 – Use a parallel port protection key

If the station has a parallel port, obtain and use the parallel port version of the protection key.

Solution 2 – Install driver version 7.3.2

  1. Obtain version 7.3.2 of the SafeNet Sentinel driver either from the web site or from a later version of PcVue’s distribution CD.
  2. Use the Windows Add/Remove Programs dialog to de-install version 7.3.0 of the driver. It is shown there as Sentinel System Driver.
  3. Restart the station if necessary.
  4. Install version 7.3.2 of the driver.

Note

Later versions of 8.10 were supplied with version 7.3.2 of the driver and so this problem does not arise.
