Summary:

This article describes how to solve a problem with installing the SafeNet Sentinel software if a later version of it was previously installed.

Details:

When SafeNet Sentinel software in installed then de-installed, it sometimes leaves a trace of having been on the PC. If you then try to install an earlier version than the one that was removed, you get an error message to say that a newer version was detected.

Solution

You have to run a tool called SSDCleanUp. Its use is explained on pages 11-12 and 28 of the SafeNet Sentinel Troubleshooting Guide.

Reference

SafeNet: End-User troubleshooting guide for Sentinel SuperPro/UltraPro and Sentinel Hardware Keys, created on 2nd July 2008. This is available for download as a 0.8MB PDF file from the SafeNet web site: http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp.

The Other Downloads section includes this warning from SafeNet.

Warn

“We recommend using the normal driver un-installation (Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs) for our drivers. SSDCleanUp might remove your Sentinel protected software application and other Sentinel SDK installation. Therefore, SSDCleanUp should be used as the last option for driver uninstall.”
