Summary:

This article describes how to solve a problem in which images in mimics are not displayed.

Details:

Symptom

When a mimic that contains images is loaded into the HMI, some of the images are missing and the message ‘Error – file missing’ appears in place of each one. Also the loading of mimics may take an unduly long time, such as 5 to 10 seconds.

Cause

A function of the Graphics Device Interface (GDI) in Microsoft Windows handles the creation of the image for a picture as a bitmap in memory. In this situation it returns the error ‘Insufficient Memory’.

The error may be due to shortage of memory on the PC’s video card. Normally when this GDI function is executed, the necessary memory is ‘borrowed’ from the PC’s RAM storage or the video card’s buffer or both. This use of storage depends on the video drivers.

Solution

In the graphic driver’s interface, configure the hardware acceleration to the maximum level.

Note

This tested solution is contrary to the usual guidance which is, if there are problems with the graphics, you should reduce the hardware acceleration setting.
