Question: What is the meaning of the colors in the HDS icon?

From PcVue 10.0 SP1 the HDS icon displayed in the System Tray changes color.

Answer: The color of the HDS icon indicates its status.

  • Green: HDS running normally.
  • Orange: HDS is stopping (pushing some records in the database or finishing a maintenance operation such as replication, purge, indexing, shrink or custom task).
  • Red: HDS is stopped (or paused).

Question: Why does the HDS occasionally not stop (green icon) when PcVue is shut down?
Answer: If the HDS does not stop when PcVue stops there is an error.

It has been reported that occasionally the HDS does not stop when PcVue is shut down. This is an error condition. In this circumstance:

  1. PcVue must not be restarted until the HDS has been stopped. If you start PcVue when the HDS is already running, historical data recording may not work properly and records may be lost.
  2. The HDS must be shut down correctly by right clicking on the icon in the System Tray and selecting Stop from the pop-up menu. Do not stop the HDS by killing the process or any pending historical data will be lost. If stopped correctly, pending records are written when the HDS is next started.
