Question:

VMware is a software solution to provide several virtual computers on a same host. Each virtual computer is completely independent from a software point of view but it uses the same host. Thus, when a virtual computer uses a hardware component it is not available to others.

Understanding this limit, the main question is:

How to connect Sentinel Netsafe Superpro Key to each virtual computer ?

Answer:

AnyWhereUSB is a hardware solution to answer it.

This material allows you to link an “USB network port” to the virtual computer. Each AnyWhereUSB has an IP address and using the specific software provided, you define which AnyWhereUSB you connect to your virtual computer.

If you use an earlier ESXi version to version 4.1, you may use, for instance, an AnyWhereUSB device for each VMWARE virtual machine. This device allows PcVue to get information from the protection dongle through the network.

Since version ESXi 4.1 of Vsphere it is now possible to affect one USB port to one virtual machine. More information and how to do that at this address can be found on the VMware knowledge base, article 1022290.

Safenet Sentinel USB dongles are supported by the ESXi hosts – see the VMware knowledge base, article 1021345.

AnyWhereUSB runs on Windows XP, 2000, NT4.0, 2003 Server, 7, 2008 Server

Question:

Do we need some special PcVue key?

Answer:

No, the kind of key depends only of your application. AnyWhereUSB is only a solution to connect the key to the virtual computer. It’s like an hardware dependence of a virtual computer

Question:

What are the hardware solution validated by ARC Informatique ?

Answer:

There are two models : AnywhereUSB and myUTN.

AnywhereUSB – see www.digi.com

MyUTN – see www.seh-technology.com

Question:

How to use it in a multi-station configuration?

Answer:

As explained before, we can’t have all PcVue keys on a same AnyWhereUSB. So, to limit the number of it, the best choice is to use a network key. Thus, placing this key on an AnyWhereUSB connected to a station that is always supposed to be present, client station will be able to connect to this station to get their rights.

Question:

Is it possible to use a PCI Applicom board in a virtual machine, for example a PCI 2000 ETH in an XP SP3 virtual machine runing on a Windows 7 host system?

Answer:

For now it is not possible. Virtualization software does not allow access to PCI or PCU slot.
The software Direct Link has been validated on virtual machine, with Direct Link V4.0 it is possible to communicate through Serial port, Ethernet port and USB in a virtual machine.

Question:

Can we have all PcVue keys on the same AnyWhereUSB?

Answer:

No. Even if AnyWhereUSB is a hardware solution embedding many USB port, you can’t share it between several virtual computers. When you “link” it to your virtual computer, you only define the IP address of the AnyWhereUSB and not the specific USB port that you use
