Summary:

This article explains how to deal with error messages 8232, 8233, 14002 and 14003.

Details:

French PcVue: “8232, %s: Erreur de connexion. Utilisez la version 2 ou supérieure de ODBC
14002, %s: Erreur de connexion. Utilisez la version 2 ou plus de ODBC.”
English PcVue: “8233, %s: Connecting error. Use ODBC version 2 or more.
14003,%s: Connecting error. Use ODBC version 2 or more.”

%s is the database name.

Explanation

For ODBC databases, PcVue requires the file ODBC32.DLL version 2 or later. If the version is earlier than version 2, this message will appear in the Event Viewer.

Solution

Check the version of ODBC32.DLL in the Control Panel, and if it is not the right version, ask your database builder for the later version.

How to check the ODBC driver

Depending on the ODBC version, the setup menus for ODBC may be different. Here is how to check ODBC32.DLL versions, though it is not valid for all ODBC versions :

  • In the Start menu, select Settings.Control Panel.
  • Double-click on the ODBC Data sources icon.
  • Select the About tab. This tab displays all ODBC core components. The ODBC32.DLL file should appear with its version number. Check that the version is at least 2.XXX.
