On the server:

  • The IP address assigned to the server is the first one in the list.

Configuring PcVue on RAS

Note

This topic only applies when you use the AILANA utility rather than a native TCP/IP connection.

To support communication in a multi-station PcVue environment, you use the NetBIOS protocol with LANA numbers. With RAS, it is necessary to identify the LANA number of the RAS connection.

You can use various tools to check and modify the correspondence between LANA numbers and reqistry keys, e.g. AiLana.

Note

These tools may be specific to an operating system.

When you use such a tool, the only numbers that are visible are those associated with any network board physically installed on the computer. Those are not what you need to check.

Identifying the LANA numbers

To identify the relevant LANA numbers, you should instead establish the connection, then search the IP addresses used by the RAS connection directly in the Windows Registry. The relevant TCPIP subfolder is in the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / ControlSet001 / Services.

RegEdit_check_LANA_numbers

For example, the address 192.168.0.4 might correspond to the ID key {D85F04B9-76C8-413C-AEAB-6F881BC44DBF}. The required LANA number could then be assigned to that key.

Note

Since Windows XP is able to reassign LANA numbers, you need to verify those numbers whenever the computer is modified, e.g. by installation or replacement of a modem, network card, etc.

In the main Help. refer to the book Networked Applications / Checking the Network Setup on Your PC / If You are Using NetBIOS.
