PcVue 11.2. May also apply to other versions.

Summary:

Extended attributes behaviour when the Distributed setting is selected may not be as expected.
Originator: LM

Details:

You can select the global behaviour of each of Extended Attribute using the Variables Settings.

distributed

Distributed behavior means that it is possible to change the value of the attribute dynamically and, in a multi-station architecture the new value is sent to the other stations.  But not necessarily to all the stations.  Here is the explanation of how it works.

If the value of a distributed attribute is changed on a client  PcVue will update the value on all the clients but only on the first server.

A Station List is used to specify which stations are servers and which are clients.  A Station List can contain several entries. If, for example, a Server List contains two stations, only the first station will be notified when a client modifies an attribute. Even if a station is on both the Client List and a Server List for a variable, it only has a server role.  The solution is to create a server association and add that to the Server List instead of the two servers. It works because the passive server behaves like a client.

It is worth noting a specific case. Sometimes,  one association and one server are added to a Server List  in order to have a “standalone development server”. This architecture is not compatible with extended attributes distribution. If you change the value of an attribute from a client station then the standalone server will not be updated. And if you change the value of an attribute from the standalone server, only that server itself will be updated.
