Alert

Summary:

This article explains good practice when migrating an Alert project.

Details:

This article covers two situations using, as an example, a project developed before the 2000’s with Windows 95 or Windows 98 and using an RTC modem.

First case, You want to keep the messages you are using with Windows 95 or Windows 98 for outgoing calls.
In this case, you chose to change your modem.
It’s necessary to convert messages to 32 bits format. For this, download here “PcmRockwellConvert.exe” to convert 16 bits files to 32 bits.

Second case, You want to keep the old RTC modem that you are using with Windows 95 or Windows 98.
Alert messages used for incoming calls on the modem installed with the new Alert version are incompatible. WAV files are 32 bits format and your old modem is not able to retransmit these files.
In this case, it’s necessary to back up the WAVE folders used with the old Alert version and to copy it to the new version. By default, the path of the folders is “C:\MMI\Alert\Wave”.

Important note: We do not recommend this choice. And if you later decide to use a new modem you will have to process as described in the First Case You will also have to update folders that you copied from the old Alert version to the most recent one.
