 What’s new in version 10.0

This section lists all major new features and enhancements in version 10.0.

General

End-user

Designer

Updated Supervisor’s Add-ons (when applicable):

  • WebScheduler version 1.2 – For configuring and running scheduled tasks. Configuration is web browser based and can be done locally or via the Internet. This version includes fixes and minor enhancements.

X

X

Microsoft® Windows Server 2008 R2 support – x64 architecture.

X

X

The maximum length for variable names has been increased from 40 to 255 characters.

In addition, the following limits are changed:

  • The maximum number of branches in a variable name has been increased form 6 to 12,
  • The length of variable’s description has also been increased to 255 characters,
  • Text extended attributes have been increased to 100 characters.

In order to support variables with 12 segments, new columns have been introduced in the Varexp.dat configuration file. Nevertheless, backward compatibility is preserved for existing project, and it is possible to enforce the use of the former format on a new project. Please refer to the online help for more information, in particular the Application Explorer topic related to the compatibility settings.

X

The dialog boxes displayed during the startup phase have been widely improved, including the various information/warning messages.
In particular, the project selection dialog box now includes more information including the project format version, the date of last modification and the total size of the project folder.

The version of the Supervisor used to modify a project has been saved, in the project, since version 9.0. Starting with version 10.0, a message is displayed at startup to confirm that you want to run a project with a later version than the one it was developed with. This is to avoid mistakenly launching and modifying a project with a later version.

X

A series of performance improvements have been implemented, in particular related to the time required to start and stop the Supervisor: Variable and trend loading and unloading.
The amount of memory required to manage some runtime elements has been reduced, in particular variables and alarm synthesis.
X
The installation package has been fully re-designed.
It is now based on the Microsoft® Windows Installer technology and supports the repair and modify maintenance modes as well as minor upgrades without having to manually uninstall first.
The features that can be installed separately from each other are improved to facilitate the identification of key components while installing the software. This also helps to minimize the size of the installation on the computer. For example, you can now choose to install the online help and the documentation for certain languages only.
Finally, the way in which downloadable packages are split has been reviewed. The size of the minimal Core package is half the size that it was.
X X
The pair of languages for projects no longer has to be chosen at installation time. A new setting allows it to be chosen for each project. X X
In addition to sending emails, it is now possible to send short text messages – SMS – from the Supervisor.   X
In order to follow technology evolutions, the SV Manager Toolkit and the Protocol Toolkit SDKs have been upgraded. This upgrade may require recompilation of components taking advantage of these SDKs.
Please refer to the toolkits’ documentation available on the DVD or contact your technical support for more information.

X

550+ fixes and enhancements. X X

HMI

End-user

Designer

New graphic controls similar to the Microsoft Form Controls are now available. It includes the following new graphic elements:

  • List-box,
  • Combo-box,
  • Option-button-list,
  • Check-box-list,
  • Tree-view.

The tree-view includes support for the command animations.
The new graphic controls have been designed for use without scripting although there is support in SCADA Basic for more advanced uses.
These new built-in graphic elements are supported via WebVue.

X X
Support for Png format images. X X
The maximum number of points that can be displayed in the trend viewer has been increased from 4000 to 12000 points per trace. This enhancement clears most of the constraints related to partial curve drawing. X

Historical Data management

End-user

Designer

In addition to multiple active server association, the HDS now supports redundancy following the single active server association scheme. Using such architecture allows a pair of HDS servers to store data in the same SQL Server database. Only one HDS server is active at a time and writes records to the database, the other server being passive and ready to take the hand if necessary.

X

X

As a consequence of the new limits for variable name length, HDS table structures created with an earlier version of the Supervisor need to be changed.
Depending on the size of your databases, this operation is done automatically at first start-up of your project with version 10.0, or has to be done before launching the project, with the help of SQL scripts supplied with the Supervisor. In any case, it is advised to backup HDS databases prior to upgrading.
See the document named HDS Database Migration.pdf in the documentation addenda for more information.

Scripting

End-user

Designer

SCADA Basic

New SCADA Basic verbs:

  • Controls: COMBOBOX, LISTBOX, CHECKLIST, OPTIONBOX and TREEVIEW,
  • IEC 60870-5-104 driver: M104,
  • IEC 61850 driver: M61850,
  • Short text messages sending: SMS.

X

Various fixes related to SCADA Basic script editing: Incorrect or missing auto-completion and carriage return management.

X

VBA

Short text messages can also be sent via VBA scripts.

X

Data Acquisition

End-user

Designer

New protocols:

  • IEC 60870-5-104 master driver – TCP based driver for communication with telecontrol devices,
  • IEC 61850 client – TCP based driver for communication with IEDs, in particular for electrical substation automation.
This driver also supports the MMS profile of the IEC 61400-25 standard.
  • IP-SRTP: SRTP Ethernet client driver. It supports communication with GE Series 90 PLCs.
  • IP-MOXA: Protocol based on the Modbus/TCP driver for communication with MOXA devices.

X

X

Due to technology obsolescence, some protocols could not be used any more on recent platforms due to hardware or software support suspended by their respective manufacturers. It is in particular the case of Ethway, Fipway, Unitelway, 3964R, Modbus Plus …
The corresponding drivers are no longer available with the Supervisor.
Please contact your technical support for more information.

X

X

WebVue

End-user

Designer

Automatic resizing of mimics to fit web client screen resolutions.

X

Logon/Logout scripts defined at the user profile level can now be executed in web contexts.

X

X

Support for contextual mimics on the alarm and log viewers.

X

X

Support for the new graphic controls: List-box, combo-box, option-button list, check-box list and tree-view.

X

X

Series of enhancements to bridge the rendering gap between the web client and the thick client:

  • More mimic properties are now supported,
  • Alarm viewer: Color and selection management, actions associated with alarms,
  • Trend viewer: Legend and zooming,
  • SCADA Basic script support, in particular verbs ALARMDISPLAY, LOGDISPLAY and TREND,
  • Pop-up mimic support.

X

X

Better responsiveness of the WebVue client to improve the user experience:

  • Client-side cache mechanism for static elements,
  • Asynchronous loading of alarm and historical data when displaying a viewer,
  • Improved text resources loading.

X
